Shiva Shells (Mermaid Money): Also known as Pacific Cat's Eyes, these are the hardened, spiral, natural "trapdoors" (operculum) of the Turban snail. When they detach and wash ashore, they resemble beautiful, swirling eye-shaped coins.
The Legend of the Shiva Shells "Mermaid Money"
Because the shells wash up empty on the ocean floor and resemble tiny, valuable golden coins or precious gems, sailors historically believed they were currency used by mermaids.
Symbolism: The "eye" design represents the third eye of the Hindu god Shiva, symbolizing wisdom, intuition, and the opening of one's spiritual sight.
Lucky Charms: They were traditionally carried as talismans by sailors and travelers to ward off the "Evil Eye," protect, and guarantee safe passage home.
